un capitulo aparte (something else altogether) is pleased to announce our first working letterpress artist residency program for Winter 2022-23. We are inviting artists with previous letterpress printing and/or bookbinding experience to apply. This working residency includes the opportunity to use the letterpress and binding studios to create works of art and to directly engage community members from the all ages community center located at Alder Commons. The shop is located in a larger studio shared by four other QT/BIPOC practicing herbalists. The working residency lasts for three consecutive months, and while there are no requirements to exhibit the work produced, the artist is expected to spend significant time in the studios on their creative practice and hosting open studio hours for AC members on a weekly basis.

Monthly materials stipend of $75 for a total material budget of $225

EXPECTATIONS
Working artist residents are expected to:
Work independently in the studio
Maintain a safe and clean working area
Attend check ins via Zoom
Engage the AC public which draws from a pool of 300 members
Work 6 weekly hours hosting open shop hours for AC member projects and general shopkeeping, paid at $28/hr
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be actively engaged in their artistic practice with previous book arts experience (paper making, printmaking, letterpress, bookbinding) required. Please note that if your application is accepted we will require a background check to ensure safety around young people, specifically at this all-ages community center.
